We collect and use personal data to deliver our events, communicate with ticket holders, process payments, and promote our events. This policy tells you what we collect, why, who we share with, how long we keep it, and your rights.

Identity & contact: name, email, address, postal address, badge name.
Ticketing & payment: order details, transaction records (we do
not store full card numbers — Stripe / Eventbrite handle card data).
Event details: sessions you register for, dietary/accessibility requests.
Marketing preferences: opt-in choices and unsubscribe records.
Technical: IP address, device/browser info, cookies and analytics.
Images & video: photos and footage taken at the Event.
3. Legal bases for processing
We rely on:
Contract: to process tickets and provide the Event.
Legitimate interests: for event administration, promotion (including photography/marketing), fraud prevention and security. We balance those interests with your rights and offer channels to raise objections.

5. Who we share with
We share with: Eventbrite, Stripe, photographers, venue staff, security, our CRM/email provider (EmailOctopus), Google Analytics, Meta (if used), and other suppliers needed to run the Event. We use contracts and safeguards when data is shared.

Where data is processed outside the UK, we use appropriate safeguards (standard contractual clauses or UK-approved mechanisms).
7. Retention
Financial & accounting records: up to 6 years.
Marketing lists: until you unsubscribe.
Photography & video: retained
indefinitely for promotional purposes unless you successfully request removal. (Contact hello@fictionfest.co.uk).
8. Photography & filming (data protection details)
Photography and video constitute personal data. We will inform attendees in event materials and on the website that photography/filming will occur. We process images primarily on the basis of
legitimate interests (promotion of the festival). You may contact hello@fictionfest.co.uk to object to the use of your image; we will consider reasonable requests and take steps to remove images where possible, but cannot guarantee removal of images already published.
